I have spoken briefly about the toxins in my previous article, “Lose Weight & Gain Health…. “. Toxins gain access to our bodies through our water and our food , also through our skin, our nose and mouth, via breathing. There are so many ways that toxins enter our bodies it is impossible to avoid them. Therefore, I believe that we need to cleanse our bodies of the toxins exist in order to obtain a healthy lifestyle. Cleansings should be done periodically to maintain our health. Cleansing our bodies will go a long way toward restoring our natural balance.
Cleansing toxins from the body is a gradual process. After all, we are talking about a lifetime of gradual toxin intake. Are you unsure if you have toxins in your body? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then you should read on :
Have you ever taken antibiotics for any reason?
Do you purchase your foods in a supermarket?
Do you bathe in or drink unfiltered water?
Do you use lotion or creams on your skin?
Is there dust, pollen or mold in your environment ?
Do you live in or near a city?
Basically, do you live and breathe?
We live in a toxic environment. Therefore, we are all toxic to varying degrees. Now, in all of my research, I have come to find that most of the medical community does not recommend cleansing for detoxification. The reason they give is that the human body is designed to eliminalte all waste material and hazardous bacteria from the body.
What I believe is that they do not take into account the fact that the functions of our digestive system and bowels were designed to take care of our bodies in an environment that no longer exists. The amounts of processed foods with artificial and synthetic additives, growth hormones and antibiotics digested by our livestock to increase production and not to mention, the pollution of the air, water and soil are all impacting our good health in ways that our ancestors never had to worry about.
Therefore, I believe that cleansings are necessary to safeguard and maintain, even regain health. Toxins
cause illness in the body. In most cases, you will realize relief from symptoms as you remove toxins.
Since most toxins come through the colon first, cleansing the colon is the most important thing to do for your good health. Now, there are many colon cleanse products on the market. I cannot recommend one, but I suggest that you do plenty of research before you make a purchase. Some of them are not all they should be. Once I did my first colon cleanse, I realized less stomach bloating, and my body felt lighter. I don’t want to gross anyone out, but my bowel movements were more complete. I would eliminate 2-4 times a day, instead of every other day as I had been.
Go on line and search the web for colon cleanses. Look at all the available products. Read the testimonials from various users, check out the history of the company that markets the products your are interested in purchasing. You will also find articles and ratings on the many different products available. If you like, then you can go to your local health food store and ask questions. Most health food stores have a licensed practitioner (not an MD) on staff. They can answer your questions.
Once you choose your product and do your first cleanse, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised at the numerous benefits to promote your good health. It is suggested that you do a colon cleanse 2-3 times a year.
Please share your experiences with us as you go on your journey to good health.

The first thing I came to realize is that mass processed foods contain countless additives and toxic compounds. I just took a look at the ingredients on the labels. I see ingredients that I can’t pronounce and have so many syllables that it’s almost a language of it’s own, I start to wonder what they are. The simple answer is, that they are chemicals that someone manufactured somewhere. They became fillers, flavor additives, and God knows what else, to the food that we eat and were led to believe was good for us.
Devastating information, to say the least. Here we are believing that we are eating healthy just because we cut out junk food and limited our portions and now eat “healthy foods”. Yet we can’t figure out why we are still gaining weight or at the very least, why we are not losing any.
Well, I have figured out that these “fillers” have absolutely no positive value to the human body. In fact, there is harm, not good in these additives. There are many more additives in foods today that there were, even a year ago, never mind 10-20 or more years ago.
Mass produced foods are depleted of the rich vitamins, minerals and nutrients that our bodies crave. the nutritional value has been replaced by the many additives, artificial flavorings and sweeteners, to make the foods taste good. The natural taste of food is now artificially replicated. The addition of all of these chemicals allow the food to be mass produced cheaply and are designed to get you hooked on them. This goes double for fast foods. The “secret ingredients” used to produce a taste you could never duplicate at home is no other than some combination of additives that are not going to allow you to maintain good health.
Therefore, you are not only deficient in the very nutrition your body is craving, you also have now polluted your body with chemical toxins that will have a negative impact on your good health. Toxins are stored in the fat cells and the colon. Your body will then keep water to try to offset the onslaught of toxins in the body.
So what about diet foods? The same holds true for them. Again, read the labels, You will again find artificial additives and chemicals, quite a list of them. So yet again more toxins are being introduced into the body. As more and more toxins enter the body, it is less and less likely that you are going to lose weight.
So what to do? Well, what I did was to stop shopping at chain supermarkets that only sell mass produced products. I go to farmers markets and small grocery stores. I always, always read the labels.. If I see ingredients that I cannot pronounce, I don’t buy it.. I purchase organic, vegetables, fruits, meats and dairy as much as possible.
I also started making certain food from scratch, using organic recipes, which I thought would be too time consuming, but the food tastes so wonderful that I have actually begun to enjoy the experience. Homemade soups, breads and juices are great!
Now, this is just the beginning.but so worth it !! Now, there are things you need to do to remove the toxins that already exist in your body.

Everyone should be taking some kind of nutritional supplement to support the body and immune system, but what exactly do we need? There are thousands of different supplements on the market. They range from dangerous, to noneffective, to highly effective. The supplements you take should be dependent upon your personal health, especially if you have health issues that require you to take medication. How do we find the best solution for our need?. Well there is no easy answer, but lets look at some issues.
Synthetic supplements (multi-vitamins) are sold everywhere. Your grocery stores and drug stores are full of them. I advise against taking these for any reason. The ingredients in these mult-vitamins are created using chemicals not foods. This is why they are called “synthetic” or “isolated” vitamins. Over time, taking these supplements could cause or add to health problems.
When you look on the labels of multi-vitamins, under the list of all of the vitamins in the product, look for the ingredients. Synthetic vitamins will have a list of ingredients that have nothing to do with food. Very easy to detect, such as : Ascorbic Acid, Niacinamide, Magnesium Oxide, Potassium Chloride, etc. These ingredients (and a bunch more) were used to “manufacure” the synthetic vitamin.
Looking at a whole food supplement also lists the vitamins however, the big difference is in the ingredients section. Listed are the foods and herbs that the vitamins are extracted from. Actual FOOD supplements are always derived from FOOD.
So be sure you read the labels of your vitamins. Select only those that give you whole food ingredients. If actual foods are not listed in the ingredients, then it is a synthetic. Put it back and keep looking. By taking a whole food supplement, you will actually be benefiting from the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes that naturally occur in whole foods.
A good whole food supplement and healthy changes in your lifestyle will go a long way toward improving your life.
I enjoy comments and suggestions so please feel free to leave them here..

Water is neccesary for survival. Everybody knows that, right? Over 70% of our bodies are made up of water. In order to keep the balance, we must maintain the proper level of water in our bodies. If we don’t, then we could experience serious repercussions such as low blood pressure, blood clots, urinary tract infections, headaches, constipation, kidney problems and at the very least, dry skin.
So, here is what we are going to do. DRINK AND HAVE CONTACT WITH AS MUCH PURE WATER AS WE CAN !!
That’s right, I said drink and have contact with.
You may or may not be surprised to learn that our environment has a great impact on the mind and body. The chemicals that are used in daily life, the medications we take and the foods we eat, even the water we drink all have a gradual effect on us. These things have a profound effect on our good health.
There is a huge push now to “Go Green”, a huge effort to save the environment. Well, this same environment that is wrecking havoc on our planet can be said to be doing the same to our bodies.
Drinking plenty of water daily is necessary to flush toxins and impurities from the body as well as nourish it. However, the quality of the water is what is important in achieving this task.
Tap water is treated with chlorine , chlorine byproducts. Medications and hormones are also present in small amounts because purification does not remove during processing. Most water also has floride added. Chlorine and floride are toxic to the body. Medication byproducts and hormones in small amounts over long periods of time have an adverse effect on the body also.
We must drink pure water in order for our body to run effectively, just like a car needs good oil…
Now, remember earlier I said that we have to have contact with pure water ? Well, most of us bathe in the same tap water that we were talking about above….. the same chemicals, floride and chlorine that we ingest when we drink tap water is absorbed through the pores in our skin when we are bathing and showering and also inhaled into our lungs through the steam vapor.
What does this mean for your health? I can’t say for sure, however there have been studies linking this to breast and prostate cancers, as well as kidney and liver problems. DO NOT DRINK OR BATHE IN TAP WATER !!
As a basic and primary health benefit, it is advisable to invest in a home water purification system, if possible, a whole house system. If that is not possible, whether it is a financial issue or you live in a multiple unit dwelling, there are other solutions that will benefit you. Purchase stand alone water filters for your kitchen and bathroom sinks and a filter shower head.
Soon after beginning to use filtered water, you will notice a difference in your skin, hair, nails and body function. I think you will be pleased. I believe filtered water tastes clean and crisp. So many benefits!! You will drink more too !
Beng secure with the water that you drink and bathe in is the first step in taking charge of your current and future health and in preparing a safe environment for yourself and your family.
Making changes in ones life is not only about altering your physical details, but also, first and foremost, you must alter your mind. The way you think, act and react are the most important aspects of altering your life. It will determine how successfully you may enhance all other area of your life.
You must:
1. Think Positively
Positive thinking will promote a stronger immune system. It will decrease symptoms of illness. Do not dwell on the things you don’t have, can’t control, have lost or cannot do. These negative thoughts will fester and weaken your system. Focus on the positives in your life. Make lists of your positive qualities, and your abilities. If you have a problem making that list, ask friends and family members. You may be surprised at all you may discover about yourself. That is a positive start.
2. Treat Others Well
When you selflessly do for others and show genuine concern for their well being, you feel better and this promotes your good health. Taking the focus off of yourself and your issues and then focusing those energies outward relieves pressure from yourself and allows you to expand your world. Not only do you improve your physical and mental well being, you expand your horizons.
The feelings you derive from helping others increases your benefits exponentially. You will have to try it and report back to us your personal results. They vary to some degree, but most all are positive.
You may find you have less illness by making this simple change. You will certainly feel better about yourself as a person.
3. Relaxation of Mind & Body
You must learn a relaxation technique that you practice 20-30 minutes per day. Make the time to get in touch with yourself. Make an appointment with yourself if you must, but it is important that you do this. You must combat the stress that everyday life brings your way. Instead of absorbing the stresses the relaxation allows your body to relieve itself of the stress.
Look into different meditation techniques , stress management, meditative breathing, visualization as well as others. Find a technique that works for you and practice it daily.
I believe that factoring these three changes into your life will give you a basic foundation of wellness on which to build.
Heres to wellness !!

My name is Wanda Beckett and I began this blog about natural health and how to go about obtaining and retaining it because it is something that is near and dear to my heart. I am a 49 year old single parent of a teenage girl and I want to be around and able to enjoy seeing her grow up, graduate from college, get married and play with my grandchildren.
I have led a pretty sedentary lifestyle up to recently, which I now truly regret. I found that because of the lifestyle I chose, I have increased my chances of major illness, as well as decreased my ability to take part in everyday activities that most people take for granted. Playing sports, dancing, running, even some household chores were things I could not do without considerable pain and stress to my body.
You see, being obese, suffering from lower back pain (diagnosed as sciatica), constant knee pain, high blood pressure and various other ailments, my chance of having a productive and enjoyable life were slowly diminishing. I rarely went anywhere other than work. I did nothing that required me to exert too much energy. I was always in pain. Anything I considered doing had to be weighed carefully based on restriction of movement. My world was getting smaller day by day.
I began to think…..Is it too late for me to make changes to better my health? Can I reverse some of the damage I have done? Can I do anything to change my circumstances?
I began my foray into the land of natural health because all other options seemed scary and dangerous. There were talks of knee replacements and weight loss surgery that I felt were so extreme that I could not begin to see the end to countless medical procedures once I began them. The average knee replacement that I have heard about is followed by additional surgery, countless hours of therapy and unlimited pain. In fact people that I have met that have had the surgery wish they never had. They claim they have more pain now than before the surgery. They are popping pain pills like candy and see no end in site. And we will talk later about the side effects of all the medication.
You see, I have never had a serious illness in my life, and slowly reality is dawning. If I don’t do something now, I may end up with chronic illness, then, a statistic. So I started to look at natural remedies to my health issues.
I am sharing my journey with you, so that you can benefit from the information that I have been using to create a better life for myself and my family. I will share with you, what worked, what didn’t. I will guide you through all I learned and continue learning.
The reason I am so driven by natural health as opposed to medical is, that a lot of medical procedures and medicines tend to mask symptoms instead of solving the problem. Illness is handled from a totally different aspect in natural health.
For example, if you go to a medical doctor complaining of pain, most likely you would be provided with a medication, probably an NSAID which will mask the pain. The pain may disappear or become dulled, but never was the root of the pain identified. Not to mention, the side effects of all the medications.
On the other hand, if you go to a natural practitioner complaining of the same pain, the first course of action would be to find the reason and the source of the pain. The cure, no doubt, would be the elimination of something you do now (something in your diet) or the addition of some natural element or maybe both .
So welcome to our new life, as we forge ahead and make changes to enhance our health and better our lives.
Always welcome are comments, questions and advise as well.
